Eat nuts? Yes, Nuts. Here’s Why

Nuts have nutrients like protein, fiber and vitamin E. They are low in saturated fats and are cholesterol free. Nuts are one of those things that a lot of people don’t think about adding to their nutrition plan. Many people see the calorie count in nuts and decide to nix them from their nutrition plan.

Yes, nuts are a little higher in calories, but their benefits far outweigh the calories. Keep in mind that you don’t have to eat a whole bag or container in one sitting. A handful is usually the right serving size.

Nuts are one of the best plant sources of protein. They are rich in fiber, phytonutrients and antioxidants such as Vitamin E and selenium. Nuts are also high in plant sterols and fat - but mostly monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats (omega 3 - the good fats) which have all been shown to lower LDL cholesterol.

In 2003, the FDA approved the following health claim for 7 kinds of nuts "Scientific evidence suggests but does not prove that eating 1.5 oz per day of most nuts as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart disease."
